Rincon Research Corporation, a privately-owned research and development company, is a leader in Digital Signal Processing (DSP) algorithm research and development, applying advanced DSP techniques to solve time-critical problems such as signal characterization, spectral analysis, filtering, and interference cancellation. Their client base includes various departments and agencies of the U.S. government, and their applications are used globally.

One of their flagship products is an object-oriented software toolkit for developing DSP applications and performing DSP analysis. This product was originally designed to run on Sun Solaris, but Rincon wanted to expand its availability to organizations that preferred the IBM p-Series AIX platform. The project required migrating over 600,000 lines of source code in a compressed time-line to meet marketing goals.

The internal team at Rincon was focused on ongoing development, and they lacked the resources and skills to migrate the toolkit from Solaris to AIX.
