SEB

SEB, a leading financial services group in Sweden, embarked on a large-scale system modernization project to transition its core banking systems from AlphaVMS to UNIX. As part of this migration, SEB needed to convert legacy code written in VMS Basic to C/C++ and move their data management infrastructure from RMS to Oracle. Additionally, the user interface needed an upgrade from the traditional VT220 terminal-based interface to a modern graphical user interface (GUI).
Sector7 played a key role in this complex migration, ensuring that SEB's core systems were successfully transitioned without any operational downtime. The migration involved not only converting VMS Basic code to C/C++ but also implementing a robust translation of the RMS file system into an Oracle database, enabling SEB to take advantage of more scalable and efficient data management. The upgrade from a text-based VT220 interface to a fully-fledged GUI significantly improved the user experience, allowing for more intuitive interaction with SEB's banking systems.
The project’s focus was to ensure that SEB’s systems remained fully functional during the migration to UNIX, while also modernizing the infrastructure to support future growth and scalability. Sector7's deep knowledge of legacy systems and database migrations allowed SEB to carry out this critical project on time and within budget.
- Converted legacy VMS Basic code to C/C++.
- Migrated SEB's data from the RMS file system to an Oracle database.
- Upgraded the user interface from VT220 terminals to a modern GUI.
- Ensured seamless migration from AlphaVMS to UNIX with no operational downtime.
This successful migration enabled SEB to modernize its core banking systems, improve data management capabilities, and enhance the overall user experience, ensuring continued operational efficiency and support for future growth.
